Note the interesting concept of activation and how it affects us. Activation is a person’s willingness and ability to take independent actions to manage their health and care. There is a growing body of evidence showing that patients who are more activated have better health outcomes and care experiences.
Highly activated people are significantly more likely to engage in healthy behaviors such as eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and avoiding health-damaging behaviors (smoking and illegal drug use, for example). They are also likely to prepare questions for a visit to the doctor, to know about treatment guidelines for their condition and to seek out health information including comparisons of the quality of health care providers.
